In the final installment of this episode of “The Triumphs Of Our Lives,” Saturday 21 March, another great turnout and challenging route. For this drive, which started in Washington and wound up in north St Charles, with a total of 16 cars and about 30 participants.
The procession included five TR6s, two TR7s (including Creig H’s LT-1 twin turbo TR7, aka “The Monster”), one each Austin-Healey 3000, new Mini , MR2, Corvette C8, Dodge Viper and a Type 65 Daytona Cobra continuation (wild…the car’s a regular at the local Cars & Coffee events).
But wait, there’s more: Bench Racers, a restored former Texaco station in St Charles, served as the end point. Owned by a long-time SLTOA member, the station had three food trucks on duty, plus live music and a big crowd. Additional sports/collectible vehicles were on hand, including owner Andy’s Spitfire 1500 and E Production GT6, plus two Shelby GT350s, an Aston Martin, Jaguar F-Type and Lotus Elite.
Again, a great day. Andy and his Bench Racers crew were great hosts and we thank them for providing a great end-of-drive experience. Feel free to check out Bench Racers some weekend; it’s located at 1801 NE 2nd Street in St Charles. The Facebook page is at https://www.facebook.com/people/Bench-Racers/61573147465202/.
