No LBCs, but did see this beast in Santa Fe: Pinzgauer, used by its owner for 4WD/off-road adventures. $25 for an hour!
Greetings one and all from downtown Santa Fe, NM, first stop on a run from northern New Mexico to southern New Mexico, then back up to northern Arizona for a look at the Grand Canyon before winding up in Reno. On this, our one full day in Santa Fe, I can report one LBC sighting: one of those modern TX4 London Taxis, used by one of the local hotels (and painted a rather startling shade of lavender (!). Otherwise, the usual assortment of Jaguars, Range Rovers, etc.
I had the great fortune of living in Albuquerque, NM, from August 1972 through May 1976, while I attended UNM; spent my summers at Holloman AFB down by Alamogordo, where my parents were stationed. For several years after leaving New Mexico I considered myself a New Mexican; between the scenery, the weather and the people (talk about a mix of cultures), it’s just a truly neat place to be. Well, on the drive down to Albuquerque last night for the monthly meeting of the Corvairs of New Mexico (I served as one of the founding members, about 41 years ago, also wound up serving as the club’s first president AND first newsletter editor), I took in the scenery, the various storms rorting about, etc…and realized this is still one of the great states of the Union.
Could I live here again? Absolutely…soy Nuevo Mexicano.
BTW, there’s a good-sized LBC club in Albuquerque, the British Automobile Owners Association of Albuquerque. I’ve had a couple of contacts with club members in the past, they sound like a good bunch. If interested, call up http://www.nmia.com/~bsavage/baoa/.
Southbound in the morning!
