Oh by the way, in and around the run-up to our typical full slate of driving and other vehicular events during the spring and summer, members of SLTOA took part in the annual Forest Park Easter Concours, on 20 April (yeah, we’re running that late).
The region had some typically rough spring weather the previous night and the forecast for Sunday’s concours was variable. Four days previously, an EF-3 tornado barrelled through the north side of St Louis, in close proximity to Forest Park. Tragically, there was loss of life and substantial damage to several neighborhoods.
However, on the 20th a good number of cars, owners and enthusiasts showed up at the concours site, the upper parking lot for The Muny, St Louis’ open-air performance venue. The event organizers with the Horseless Carriage Club of Missouri estimated total participation was down by about 33 percent.
SLTOA put 10 Triumphs on the display field; our good friends with the MG Club of St Louis placed 14 Morris Garage products in line next to us. Thus, they retained the traveling British Leyland Participation Trophy for another year.
In the end, the weather cooperated and while the numbers were down, those who brought their cars and those who came to observe the festivities enjoyed the day.
