Absolutely perfect weather (I don’t think it exceeded 87 degrees), clear skies and a big field of nearly 50 cars at the monthly BSCC event at Family Arena. And, SLTOA turned out a pretty good-sized contingent with the Slow Roller Racing Team: nine members, two of whom drove Triumphs.
This autocross marked my second in the Kia Forte5. It’s actually pretty good in a parking lot grand prix and amazingly enough, rides smoother and is more comfortable than the HSD. Adding to the experience, with the decent stereo I was able to make six runs while listening to bluegrass on KDHX 88.1. The down side? While the Kia’s four-banger is reasonably powerful, I really miss the torque presented by the TR8’s 3.5L V8 (gee, go figure!). Plus, autocrossing is definitely more fun in a convertible.
In the end, I think everyone had a great time. Regret to say I’ll miss the next run, on 25 September, as I’ll be in New Mexico and Arizona. Ah, but come October, the HSD and I will return to the field of vehicular combat!
