• All British!

Holy cow, what a day…THE long-standing big event for the local British car faithful, held at Creve Coeur Lake Park on Saturday, 21 September. According to one of my contacts with the MG Club of St Louis (the event organizing club), they had 121 pre-registrations and I figure we wound up with about 130 on…

  • Manchester Homecoming

Incredibly nice Saturday in St Louis and traffic on Manchester was a mess, due to the big annual Manchester Homecoming Celebration. That event apparently included a parade with some really nice cars…which, of course, I missed (rats). However, I did stumble across this immaculate 1970 Pontiac Le Mans with 455 ci V8 (whuf!), which served…

  • SLTOA Dinner Drive

St Louis’ Triumph faithful got out again Thursday evening, 29 August, with a drive from Gravois Bluffs south to Johnny’s Hideout in High Ridge. The participants enjoyed an incredible assortment of scenic and winding (and narrow!) roads; all agreed it was a great drive. Next major event for the club? Possibly another drive in mid-September…

  • Targa De Soto II

At some point several years ago, the Triumph faithful made a drive 40 miles south to De Soto under the title of “Targa De Soto,” incorporating a photo stop at the restored Texaco station on Main Street and lunch. The group included a ’64 Corvair Monza coupe, a mid-50s Packard Clipper, ’50 Studebaker and a few others. Our feature attraction, this late ’50s Jaguar MkIX. Yeah, it’s rough…

Once again, things you don’t necessarily expect to see while cruising US highways: a 1959 (or thereabouts) Ford Prefect saloon, located Light Hit Rebuilders, 3635 Hwy 64 on the west side of Crump, TN. English Ford (officially Ford UK) built the Prefect over several series from 1938 to 1941 and 1945 to 1953. This last…

  • South Central VTR 2024

What a week! From Wednesday, 29 May through Sunday, 01 June, the Triumph faithful of St Louis hosted the annual South Central Region VTR (Vintage Triumph Register) convention/ conference/confab (your choice of words). Typically one of the Texas or Oklahoma clubs host this major event; the Kansas City Triumphs Sports Car Club held it a…

  • Whoops, miscount!

After posting on the Panhandle British Car Association’s most excellent “Brits on the Bay” gathering (see 24 April), I swapped some info with club officers. Turns out I was way off on my estimate of the number of cars on display: it was actually 100 cars (!). In any event, I’m glad to provide the…
