Targa De Soto II

At some point several years ago, the Triumph faithful made a drive 40 miles south to De Soto under the title of “Targa De Soto,” incorporating a photo stop at the restored Texaco station on Main Street and lunch. Well, earlier this year, when discussions came up among the membership and leadership about drive opportunities for the remainder of the year, the idea of a return trip to De Soto came up and was accepted.

The drive started at the Dierbergs in Wildwood under perfect driving conditions, ie, severe clear with temps in the upper 70s-low 80s. We had 12 participants distributed among eight cars: six Triumphs, plus an MR2 and Mazda MX-5. The standout was undoubtedly returning member Jim Conley’s newly acquired 1960 TR3, in BRG and complete with appropriate green duct tape in a number of places (hey, work in progress!). The car particularly drew the attention of a young lady in De Soto, who requested a photo of her in the driver’s seat of Jim’s car.

The day ended with lunch at Coyal Mexican Grill & Bar, on MO 21 (okay, so two members bolted for a nearby Imo’s). All agreed it had been a great drive. Next excursion? A dinner drive the evening of Thursday, 22 August. Keep an eye on www.sltoa.org for details.

Quite a double feature, eh?
